After the last update to CSGO adding vulkan support, I wanted to try csgo on linux again, but it will not start at all with that launch option, it works in opengl, but is very stuttery. Hello, I hope its ok that I post this here, as I cant find the weekly thread, and I think its of general interest. If you have any tips, tricks or tools to help me out of this situation without requiring me to go back to stinky old Windows 10 by struggling to communicate with M$ support that would be gladly appreciated. I've also installed LXQt, as I got good performance on that with my old laptop.Īnyway, I was, of course looking for help on here going on here simply to write about my recent story without asking for anything would be a bit pointless. However, I have found that the animations in GNOME 41 are 5 times as fast and smooth as they were on my old laptop. All of these games i tried on Linux with my new computer I did with i3, in case that gives you an idea. I've been looking for a solution to get the same performance for TF2 on Linux as on Windows, and bearable performance for BeamNG on Linux. Haven't tried yet, probably fast, as usual. Never tried because I didn't own the game back then. (Proton-GE) (Vulkan) Same unbearable frames as on old laptop, cars only take a tiny bit less time to load. (Native) Somewhat decent frames, cars load very quickly. (Proton/Proton-GE) (OpenGL) Same performance as on Win10 (Native) A terrible 10 FPS average, cars take ages to load. Some instances of high frames, but lots of stuttering and high ping (200<). These are the game performance differences between devices and platforms:īetter frames, still very high ping (150<).

BeamNG.Drive had the same old unbearable frames again, even though my GPU finally supported modern Vulkan unlike the one in my old laptop. Team Fortress 2 had stuttering and had the same high ping as on my old laptop. On my old laptop Team Fortress 2 improved in performance when I switched to GNU/Linux, so I had expected the same with my new one.

The former 2 had significantly better performance than on my old laptop which I was glad about. I found my time on Windows to be the perfect bit of time to test out the performance of some of my games, those being Team Fortress 2, BeamNG.Drive and Day of Defeat Source. Having lost my USB I had to put up with Windows 10 on my laptop while we got a new USB to install Arch. I've recently gotten an ex-rental HP Elitebook from my school.
